AVG is now offering an UPGRADE to their free Anti-Virus software!Version 8.5 now needs to be upgraded to Version 9.0.Many of you have been calling because you are getting a message on your computer that your AVG Anti-Virus 8.5 (or earlier) software is expiring. The message implies that you might have to/want to purchase something new. This is somewhat misleading because the AVG software has been, and is still, completely FREE for non-commercial, personal use. The message is simply an ADVERTISEMENT to entice you to purchase their more powerful, professional version of AVG 9.0. Although the professional version is an excellent value, you are under no obligation to purchase it unless you do not meet their licensing criteria.. The professional version offers better scheduling options, more anti-spyware features, etc than the free version. If you are comfortable with the free version, then you can continue to use the free version. The upgrade to AVG 9.0 is very easy to install and is a much better product than ever before. You will be very pleased with the new version. It offers better protection, a new user interface, and more. Although I am available to perform the upgrade for you (minimum service charge is $39 plus travel), you can likely do this yourself. It is very, very easy. If you get stuck or simply want me to do this for you, please call me (Dave) at (727) 834-8688 to set up a service call appointment. Here are the instructions for upgrading to AVG 9.0 yourself. Essentially, once the installer begins, just click on "Next", "Accept", or "Finish" until it completes. That's it! Couldn't be easier. NOTE - If you are installing AVG 9.0 for the first time, the instructions are basically the same. The only difference is that YOU MUST go to the Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and UNINSTALL any and all other antivirus programs that already exist on your PC. You can not have more than one antivirus on your computer at a time (even if you believe it is disabled). Here are more detailed instructions to follow. You may want to print this page so you can follow along. These instructions may not be exact as it depends on your version of Windows and whether AVG changes their installer. Step 1: To begin installing AVG 9.0, click on this link and then click on the "Download Now" button. Step 2: In the download window, click "Run" and the download will begin. Step 3: After the download is completed, you will see a security warning - click "Run" or "Open" (depending on your version of Windows) Step 4: The AVG installation should now begin and you will see the "Welcome to the AVG Setup Program" screen. Click Next. Step 5: You will get a brief download screen and then you will see "Begin your AVG installation". IMPORTANT STEP Select "Install only basic free protection. (AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition)" Step 6: Click "Next" and continue with the installation following the on-screen instructions until finished. |
